A new Stargate series is in the works at Amazon MGM Studios . WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer is developing the series under her overall deal with the studio, sources confirmed to Deadline.
Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell also will executive produce the project, along with Schaeffer. A writers room has opened in New York, we’re told.
This is the second try at a new Stargate series. A reboot of the popular MGM IP from Stargate veteran Martin Gero received a series order by Prime Video in November 2025, but it June it was revealed that the project would not be moving forward. The show had completed a 20-week writers room and was in pre-production in the UK when it was pulled, sources told Deadline at the time.
Stargate was among the first MGM titles identified for series or film adaptations following Amazon's $8.5B acquisition of the storied Hollywood studio in 2022. Watch on Deadline
The franchise launched in 1994 with the feature film Stargate, created by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin. The film spawned several Stargate series – Stargate SG-1 , which aired from 1997-2007, spinoff Stargate Atlantis, from 2004-2009 and Stargate Universe from 2009-2011. Animated series Stargate Infinity aired from 2002-2003.

Great! But how does this happen without Emmerich and Devlin? Did they pass on getting involved?
so instead of the really promising Martin Gero series, which had the support of original creators and cast, we get this?
I’m really encouraged by this. Stargate has spent far too long looking backwards, and this finally feels like a chance to make it feel current again. The old creative teams deserve enormous credit for everything they built, but successful franchises survive because new people eventually come in, reinterpret the material and find new audiences. That has happened with Star Trek, Doctor Who, Batman, James Bond and plenty of others. If Stargate wants a real future rather than just nostalgia, giving fresh talent room to shape it is a very good sign.
