- Karl Urban cites one particular *Mortal Kombat II* fight scene as "the most challenging fight stunt combat sequence" of his career.

- The *Boys* star says that he "smashed a bunch of crockery" while rehearsing the scene in his apartment.

- Filmmaker Simon McQuoid, *MK *creator Ed Boon, and actors Tati Gabrielle, Adeline Rudolph, and Martyn Ford join Urban in the trailer breakdown.

Karl Urban has kicked ass on the USS Enterprise in *Star Trek*, in Middle Earth in *The Lord of the Rings*, and on Asgard in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — but none of those proved as difficult as picking up Johnny Cage's bo staff.

The *Dredd* actor tells ** about the most difficult fight choreography he's ever executed during a trailer breakdown for *Mortal Kombat II* alongside director Simon McQuoid, *Mortal Kombat* creator Ed Boon, and costars Tati Gabrielle, Adeline Rudolph, and Martyn Ford.

"Oh my god," Urban says upon seeing his tussle with CJ Bloomfield's Baraka. "The stunt department gave me this bo stick to train with, and I was in my apartment flying this thing around."

It turns out that melee weapons and kitchenware don't mix. "It went flying," Urban says of the staff. "I smashed a bunch of crockery. So that was the last time I practiced that at home."

He continues, "This was without a doubt the most challenging fight stunt combat sequence that I have ever been involved with in my career."

McQuoid explains how the film captured the Tarkatan village where the fight takes place. "A lot of the scenes are in sets, in soundstages," the director begins. "This was a wonderful opportunity to get outside and get the sunlight working. It was really important to me that we had this flavor and this feeling. It needed to feel bleached and brutal. I wanted to get a sense that this was a community."

The filmmaker goes on to explain that he took inspiration from "one of the most recent games" in the *Mortal Kombat* series. "In the story mode, you go into the Tarkatan village, and I looked at that, and I thought, 'Okay, we have to make this real,'" he recalls. "This is a massive opportunity. I actually sort of saw that as we were in early development."

He added, "It was lots of fun out there in the dust."

Earlier in the video, Urban details a "terrifying" scene where the entire *MKII* cast watched him from off-camera: a sequence in which Johnny (a Hollywood movie star in the *MK* universe) films a fight scene for his action epic *Uncaged Fury*.

"It was a terrifying experience," Urban says. "These are guys who are all like, 'Hey, we're gonna come and watch *Uncaged Fury*, and I'm like, 'Oh, great, great, great.'"

The *Boys* star was embarrassed to perform in such a goofy getup in front of such experienced combatants. "I turn up to work, and I put this costume on, and it's this '90s MC Hammer-esque kinda dude," he says. "I feel ridiculous. I know it's so Johnny Cage. It's right out of the game. Looks amazing."

Overall, however, shooting the scene was ultimately a positive experience. "We leaned into it and had so much fun," Urban says. "One of my most favorite parts of shooting the film, for sure."

An apparently "intentional" explosion at a Harvard University medical building early Saturday is under investigation, authorities said.

An officer responded to the Goldenson building around just before 3 a.m. ET and saw two people fleeing the building after a fire alarm was activated, according to the Harvard University Police Department.

Two masked people were later seen in surveillance footage circulated by police, one of them wearing what appeared to be a gray ski mask and the other a long face mask and a black hoodie.

The unsettling incident comes after a tense year for Harvard students, teachers and staff who were thrust into a national spotlight amid the White House's push to reshape higher education. Officials from Harvard and the White House have been in discussions for months about a high-dollar deal to restore all federal funding to the university and end its ongoing lawsuits against the administration.

What happened

On the building's fourth floor, it was apparent there had been an explosion — one that an arson team has initially assessed "appeared to be intentional," police said Saturday.

Boston police swept the building for "any additional devices" but none were found, and no injuries were reported, officials said.

The officer who first responded "attempted to stop the individuals" before going upstairs to investigate what triggered the alarm, police said.

There was no further information on any suspects, the nature of the explosion or the damage that may have resulted.

The Goldenson building opened in 1906 and was specifically designed for the university's medical school, according to historical notes about the building.

The area of the building where the explosion took place "has been cleared and is fully operational," a message sent to the Harvard Medical School community Sunday afternoon said.

"There was no structural damage to the building, and all labs and equipment remain intact," the message added. "Cleaning crews are on site to help ensure everything is ready for the beginning of the work week tomorrow."

The FBI is assisting university police, FBI Boston Division spokesperson Kristen Setera told CNN.

Police on Saturday evening asked the campus community for help identifying the two individuals in the photos. The person seen in the ski mask was wearing a brown hoodie with large black and yellow writing, beige pants and light-colored clogs. The other masked individual wore a black hoodie, black and gray plaid pants and black shoes.

"The Harvard University Police Department is actively investigating this incident in coordination with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners," university police said.

Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to contact the department's detective bureau.

CNN has reached out to the Boston police and fire departments for additional information.

The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board said on Sunday, Nov. 2 it is sending a team to investigate an Oct. 29 close call between a Southwest Airlines jet and a medical helicopter near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport in Ohio.

The NTSB said the two aircraft experienced a loss of separation – meaning they came closer to each other than the required minimum safe distance – when Southwest Flight 1333 was making its final approach on a flight from Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI).

This prompted the Southwest pilot to abort the landing. Southwest said the Boeing 737 landed safely a short time later.

The NTSB and Southwest did not disclose the number of passengers and crew aboard the airliner. The helicopter appears to have been transporting a patient at the time of the incident, based on how it was identifying itself at the time.

Southwest said in a statement on Sunday, Nov. 2 it "appreciates the professionalism of our crew in responding to the situation. We are engaged with the National Transportation Safety Board and will support the investigation."

A representative for the medical transport company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A mid-air collision between an American Airlines regional jet and a U.S. Army helicopter on Jan. 29 killed 67 people near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport outside the U.S. capital and caused alarm about close calls between commercial airplanes and helicopters.

Southwest plane had to deviate from course

Aviation tracking website Flightradar24 said air traffic control audio and flight tracking showed that the Southwest plane was forced to deviate from its course to avoid the Eurocopter helicopter that was passing in front of it in the Cleveland incident. Both aircraft were at 2,075 feet (632 meters) altitude at one point and were as close as 0.56 miles (0.9 km) of separation, the site said.

An air traffic controller asked the medical helicopter to go behind the other flight traffic in the vicinity of the airport but the helicopter pilot responded that it "would be better if we could go above it and in front of it if we can," and the controller agreed, according to audio posted by Flightradar24.

The Southwest captain said in a report to the Federal Aviation Administration that it was an "extremely close" incident and required immediate action to avoid a collision, according to two people briefed on the matter. The FAA last month said it was modifying helicopter routes in the vicinity of BWI and Washington Dulles International Airport to add buffer zones after the January crash as well as at Reagan.

Government shutdown: Will air traffic controllers end another government shutdown? They hope not.

The FAA has faced criticism from U.S. lawmakers and NTSB investigators for failing to act on reports of near-miss incidents before the Jan. 29 collision. The Army Black Hawk helicopter was above the maximum permitted altitude at the time of the crash. Both the helicopter and airliner crashed into the Potomac River.

In May, the FAA barred the Army from flying helicopters near the Pentagon after a May 1 close call that forced two civilian planes to abort landings.

The NTSB disclosed in March that since 2021 there had been 15,200 loss of air separation incidents near Reagan between commercial airplanes and helicopters, including 85 close-call events.
